Timely Win for MC Boys
The MC Boys breathed new life into their 2023 campaign with a 27-17 victory over visiting team Kraaifontein in a fierce Wp Super league C fixture at Riverside Park Macassar on Saturday 22 April.
The side had suffered defeat in their first fixture and lost 33-23 to the men from Goodwood on the opening weekend of the WP club rugby season but showed improved application and continuity to claim a deserved win. With the return of key players from Ramadan, Macassar can look forward to a full-strength squad for their next encounter.
Their tries were scored by wingers Breyton Kleyn (2) and Kenneth Scheffers, while hooker Johan Lavin was capped with a bonus point fourth try for the home side.
The hosts enjoying the bulk of possession and territorial advantage in the first half, and were clinical at the start of the game, both on defense and attack, where they managed to vary their play to cause the visitors some issues and close off the first half 10-0 in atrocious weather conditions.
The visitors overcame a poor start to stay in the contest and took full advantage of their superior scrum in the second half and manage to capitalize on the home side mistakes. Kraaifontein’s number eight Jaendre Louw had an impressive showing and kept the home side busy. To compound matters for the Mc Boys, they slipped too many tackles, and their discipline was also lacking a bit. As a result, the visitors scored three late tries in the final stages to close of the match. 27-17
Mc boys captain Clint Stewart was again instrumental following his impressive showing the previous week, with lock pairing Burnodick Julius and Domonique Genecke dominating the tight facets.
The dangerous back three of Macassar Breyton Kleyn, Jaden Pieterse and Kenneth Scheffers looked unstoppable.
“It has been a tough week, we came off the field last week saying, ‘we could have won that’. Today we said we just have to win,” Macassar captain Clint Stewart said.
